DoorGuard ™

What is DoorGuard ™?

DoorGuard is a door sensor system designed to alert an individual that the opening of the door may impact an individual or object on the other side. The system comprises a sensor unit that hangs on the door and detects the presence of an object or person in the door’s path. Upon detection, the system triggers the control unit to give an alert which is a visual indicator on the inside of the door warning of an object in the outside swinging door path.

What are the advantages over other impact prevention solutions?

Easy Installation: The DoorGuard™ is designed for easy installation and can be adjusted to fit any hinged framed door.
Cost-Effective: It is more affordable than purchasing visibility doors or installing visibility glass in existing doors.
Maintains Door Integrity: The original structure of the door, including fire-resistant door assemblies, remains unmodified.
No Extra Wiring: The DoorGuard™ is a self-contained unit with a battery life of up to one year, eliminating the need for additional wiring.
Flexible Installation: The DoorGuard™ can be either temporarily installed and easily removed or fixed permanently to prevent removal.
Plus many more advantages……

How easy is it to install ?

The DoorGuard unit is engineered for straightforward mounting on any standard door. It is designed to slip over the top, positioning the sensor unit on the exterior and the control unit on the interior. This configuration utilizes a thin bracket that permits the door to close fully, eliminating the need for extensive modifications to the door or frame.

What type of injuries can the DoorGuard prevent?

1) Retail Stores: In a busy retail environment, a customer was struck by a swinging door when an employee pushed it open without checking if anyone was on the other side.
2) Restaurants: In a restaurant kitchen, a server was carrying a tray of food when a swinging door was pushed open from the other side by another employee. The server was knocked off balance, resulting in a sprained ankle and spilled hot food causing burns.
3) Schools: In a school, a student was running down the hallway and collided with a swinging door that was being opened by a teacher. The impact caused the student to fall and sustain a broken nose and chipped teeth.
4) Hospitals: In a hospital, a nurse was hurrying to attend to a patient when a swinging door was pushed open by another staff member. The nurse was hit in the shoulder, leading to a dislocated shoulder and bruising.

Prevent Legal Implications like the following :

Premises Liability: Property owners have a legal duty to ensure their premises are safe for visitors. If a swinging door causes an injury due to negligence, such as improper maintenance or lack of safety features, the property owner can be held liable1.
Negligence: To establish negligence, the injured party must prove that the property owner knew or should have known about the dangerous condition and failed to take appropriate action to fix it. This includes regular maintenance and ensuring safety features like door sensors are functioning properly.
Compensation: Victims of swinging door injuries can seek compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering. In some cases, if the injury occurred on government property, there might be additional steps and shorter deadlines for filing a claim.
Case Examples: There have been numerous cases where individuals have successfully sued for injuries caused by swinging doors. For instance, in retail stores or restaurants, if an employee pushes a door open without checking for people on the other side, resulting in an injury, the establishment can be held liable.
Rental Properties: Numerous landlords have faced legal action due to unsafe conditions related to door openings, which have affected children, adults, and pets. Doors that separate the garage from the house or those that divide different rooms are particularly prone to causing such impacts.
